What is the crankshaft raw material made of

The crankshaft is made of pure molten iron with high temperature and low sulfur.

1. The main rotating parts of the engine can undertake the up and down (reciprocating) motion of the connecting rod to become circular (rotating) motion after the connecting rod is installed. It is a heavy part of the engine. It is made of carbon structural steel or nodular cast iron. It has two important parts: the spindle neck, the connecting rod neck, (among others). The main shaft neck is installed on the cylinder body, the connecting rod neck is connected with the large hole of the connecting rod, and the small head hole of the connecting rod is connected with the cylinder piston. It is a typical crank slider mechanism. The lubrication of the crankshaft mainly refers to the lubrication of the connecting rod with the large head bearing bush and the crankshaft connecting rod neck and the lubrication of the fixed point at both ends. The rotation of the crankshaft is the power source of the engine. It is also the source of power for the whole mechanical system.

Two, blank casting

1) smelting

The obtaining of high temperature and low sulfur pure molten iron is the key to produce high quality ductile iron. The main production equipment in China is cupola furnace, and the molten iron has not been pre-desulfurized. The second is less high purity pig iron, coke quality is poor. The molten iron is melted in cupola, desulfurized outside the furnace, and then heated up in induction furnace and adjusted composition. In China, vacuum direct reading spectrometer has been widely used to detect the composition of molten iron.

2) modelling

The air impact moulding process is obviously better than the clay sand moulding process, which can obtain the high precision crankshaft casting capacity. The sand moulding made by this process has the characteristics of no rebound deformation, which is particularly important for multi-crankshaft. There are already some crankshaft manufacturers in China from Germany, Italy, Spain and other countries to introduce airflow impact modelling technology, however, the introduction of the whole production line only a few manufacturers.

What raw materials does the crankshaft use

The crankshaft is made of high quality medium carbon steel or medium carbon alloy steel by die forging, and the journal is treated by surface quenching. Domestic cars generally use ductile iron crankshaft.
